Buzzarone
Forte e coraggioso come un leone
Buzzarone — the family nickname for generations — is an organic estate in Castelferrato, part of Torrevecchia Teatina in the province of Chieti. The land lies like a balcony between the Adriatic Sea and the Majella mountains, a habitat of sun, sea breeze and wide temperature swings that gives grapes both concentration and balance.
The heritage goes back to Riccardo's great-grandfather Domenico, continued through grandfather Agostino and his parents. In 2015 Riccardo Petrongolo began reviving the land he inherited from his grandfather, and in 2019 the cantina Buzzarone was born — forte e coraggioso come un leone.
The philosophy is simple: minimal intervention, attention to nature and respect for tradition. The vineyards are farmed under EU organic rules (member of FIVI, the Italian federation of independent winegrowers), with grassed rows against erosion and only preparations of natural origin. Vinification happens on site with traditional methods; bâtonnage is the only extra practice — everything else is left to the wine's own time.
”Sarebbe da egoisti riservarsi una terra di tradizioni e cultura, così piena di emozioni.” — Riccardo Petrongolo
